Japanese Name Generator

Authentic Japanese names — a real family name (Sato, Suzuki, Takahashi) with a real given name, in the correct family-name-first order you can switch.

How these names are built

Real Japanese names are two parts: a family name drawn from a small, extremely concentrated pool — the top ten surnames (Sato, Suzuki, Takahashi, Tanaka…) cover roughly a tenth of the population — and a given name chosen from era-fashionable options. This generator banks the most common real surnames and given names, male and female, so every result is a combination that could genuinely exist. Note the order: in Japanese the family name comes first (Tanaka Haruto), though Western contexts usually flip it.

How the generator works

Frequently Asked Questions

Are these real Japanese names?

Yes — every surname and given name in the bank is a real, common Japanese name. Only the pairing is random, and the pairings are all plausible: any of these full names could belong to a real person.

Why does the family name come first?

That is the native Japanese order. Most Western documents flip it to given-name-first; use the order that matches the context you are writing for.

Can I use one for a character or game?

Yes. A common-surname-plus-given-name combination is exactly how real Japanese naming works, so it reads as authentic in fiction, games and sample data.
